Description
Recently playing through a Crusader Kings game as Charlemagne, I successfully managed to wed my one of my sons (Charles) to a daughter of Leo IV. Decades later, playing as Charles, I finally managed to win the Byzantine throne for my (now Catholic) wife and a few years after following both their deaths, their son Lothair climbed to the top of both Roman Empires. This is a map of that scenario showing my empire at the time of Lothair's death in 863.
Sad to say unity didn't last as I had two sons; with the eldest taking over the Empire in the West and the youngest taking power in the East.
